WRITE YOUR U.S. CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES (2 Senators + 1 House):

Recently a story ran in The Island Packet about a couple who were forced by developer Pulte Homes from their community, The Haven, in Bluffton, SC. Some of the comments to the on-line article are as enlightening as the article itself.
http://www.islandpacket.com/2011/01/02/1497110/age-restrictions-force-couple.html

As the article points out, federal law, the Housing for Older Persons Act, allows PRIVATE developer, Pulte Homes, to rule over the community with tyrannical impunity. A majority of the Haven’s governing community association board of directors are Pulte employees.

Another Pulte community, Sun City Hilton Head, is located only a couple of miles from The Haven. Like the Haven, Sun City Hilton Head, which is going on 15 years old, and 7,000 homes, is governed by a community association board of directors, the majority of which are Pulte employees. http://peretired.blogspot.com/ documents the dishonest, reckless and arrogant actions of Pulte Homes at Sun City Hilton Head.

My question for you is this: Do you think that in a free United States of America, that a dishonest, reckless and arrogant PRIVATE company, Pulte Homes, should be able to exercise such tyrannical control over communities?

I don’t. I respectfully request that Congress investigate the matter of PRIVATE companies exercising tyrannical control over US citizens under the authority of the Housing for Older Persons Act. I look forward to your response.
